Imagery Age

Every EdSpark student account is assigned an Imagery age, defining the look and context of the activities and courses available to the student. The Imagery age is decoupled from the academic level, meaning students working at a lower academic level than their chronological age can access content that still looks age-appropriate.

  • Designed by specialist practitioners, EdSpark Speaking English delivers online learning pathways that take students from no English to Entry Level 1
  • Learners progress through their learning pathway in clear steps, jumping forward when ready for a challenge and revisiting previous learning when needed
  • Students can start at any time of the year, allowing them to boost language skills before attending face-to-face classes, or to support the learning happening in school, college, and in the community
  • Younger learners follow EAL Pathways, helping them to settle into school by learning key words and phrases, as well as school routines. Older learners and adults access the ESOL content, focusing on integration into college and everyday life
  • Ideally suited for students with difficulties attending school, those at risk of permanent exclusion, learners with SEN support or other unique circumstances

Our story

EdSpark has been developed from the ground up by Kent County Council. It was created to expand the learning offer for unique young people not on a school roll.
EdSpark re-created the duality of wellbeing and academic support used in the face-to-face work with students, and re-imaged it for an online audience. EdSpark content is created by tutors, wellbeing support officers, and other education specialists with a long history of working directly with children and young people.
Since then, EdSpark has branched out into different teams within the local authority as well as schools, linking professionals together around the young person.
